There are multiple differences in dimming performance among different types of LED dimming bulbs. The following are several common types of LED dimming bulbs and their dimming performance characteristics:
Classified by dimming method
The dimming principle of thyristor dimming: By changing the conduction Angle of the thyristor, the waveform of the input voltage is controlled, thereby adjusting the brightness of the LED bulb.
Dimming performance features: The advantages are low cost, good compatibility, and the ability to be used in conjunction with most traditional thyristor dimmers. The drawback is that the dimming accuracy is relatively low. At low brightness, flickering or light shaking may occur. Moreover, the dimming range is limited, usually only achieving a dimming range of about 10% to 100%.
The principle of 0-10V dimming: It uses a 0-10V DC voltage signal to control the dimmer, thereby precisely adjusting the brightness of the LED bulb.
Dimming performance features: It has high dimming accuracy and linearity, capable of achieving full-range dimming from 0 to 100%. The dimming process is smooth and fine, with almost no flicker, and can precisely adjust the light to the desired brightness level. However, it requires a dedicated 0-10V dimming system to support it, including dimmers and controllers, etc. The cost is relatively high and the wiring is rather complex.
The dimming principle of DMX512: Based on the DMX512 protocol, it controls the brightness, color and other parameters of multiple LED lamps through digital signals. It is often used in scenarios such as stage lighting and landscape lighting where multiple lamps need to be controlled in coordination.
Dimming performance features: The dimming function is extremely powerful, capable of achieving high-precision dimming control. It can independently or in groups control a large number of LED bulbs, creating a rich variety of lighting effects. Its dimming speed is fast, its response is sensitive, and it can achieve complex lighting changes and animation effects. However, the DMX512 dimming system is rather complex, with high equipment costs and high technical requirements for operators.
Classify by color
The dimming performance characteristics of white LED dimmable bulbs: Mainly adjust the brightness of white light, and its color temperature is usually fixed. Common ones include warm white light (2700K - 3000K), neutral white light (4000K - 4500K), and cold white light (5000K - 6500K), etc. During the dimming process, the color consistency is relatively good and there is no obvious color shift. However, white light of different color temperatures may bring different visual experiences to the human eye at low brightness. For example, warm white light may appear yellower at low brightness.
The dimming performance features of the color LED dimmable bulb: It can not only adjust the brightness but also change the color. Generally, various color variations are achieved through different combinations of the three primary colors, RGB (red, green, and blue). Its dimming performance includes not only brightness adjustment but also the accuracy and uniformity of color. High-quality color LED dimmable bulbs can precisely present various colors, with high color saturation and good color consistency at different brightness levels. However, due to the need to control the mixture of multiple colors, its dimming control is relatively complex and has higher requirements for the driving circuit and control system.
Classified by power
The dimming performance features of low-power LED dimmable bulbs: Typically, the power is between 1 and 10W, making them suitable for places with low brightness requirements, such as night lights and decorative lights. Its dimming range is relatively narrow, generally around 5% to 100%. This is because the luminous efficiency of low-power bulbs is relatively low at low brightness. Excessively reducing the brightness may result in the light being too weak or even unable to emit light normally. However, the dimming response speed of low-power bulbs is relatively fast, and they can quickly change the brightness according to the dimming signal.
The dimming performance features of high-power LED dimmable bulbs: The power is generally above 10W, and they can be used in places that require high-brightness lighting, such as living rooms and shopping malls. This type of bulb has a relatively wide dimming range, usually reaching 1% to 100%. It can provide sufficient light intensity at high brightness and maintain good light quality at low brightness. However, due to its high power, better heat dissipation measures are needed during the dimming process to ensure the performance and lifespan of the bulb. Otherwise, poor heat dissipation may lead to unstable brightness or increased light attenuation.
