LED dimmable bulbs with different dimming methods have different limitations in application scenarios, as follows:

Thyristor dimming

Not suitable for places sensitive to electromagnetic interference: Thyristor dimming regulates voltage by changing the conduction Angle of alternating current, which can disrupt the sine wave waveform and generate electromagnetic interference. Therefore, in some places with high requirements for electromagnetic environment, such as precision instrument rooms in hospitals, electronic equipment production workshops, and scientific research laboratories, the use of LED bulbs with thyristor dimming may interfere with the normal operation of other equipment and is not suitable for use.

It is not suitable for occasions with high requirements for dimming accuracy: The dimming accuracy of thyristor dimming is relatively low, making it difficult to achieve very precise brightness adjustment. In some places where precise control of light intensity is required, such as studios and museum exhibition halls, the demand for precise light adjustment may not be met.

It is not suitable for scenarios with frequent dimming: When the thyristor dimming is frequently dimmed, problems such as bulb flickering and shortened lifespan are prone to occur. Therefore, in some places where the brightness needs to be frequently changed, such as stage lighting and lighting demonstrations in meeting rooms, it is not very suitable.

PWM dimming

PWM dimming is generally not suitable for ultra-low cost scenarios: PWM dimming usually requires a dedicated drive circuit to be implemented, and its cost may be slightly higher compared to some other simple dimming methods. Therefore, in some large-scale basic lighting scenarios where cost requirements are extremely strict, such as ordinary underground parking lots and some temporarily built simple lighting places, if the requirements for dimming performance are not high, lower-cost dimming methods or non-dimming bulbs may be given priority.

Limited by communication distance and stability (during intelligent dimming) : When PWM dimming is combined with an intelligent control system and dimming is achieved using wireless communication protocols (such as Zigbee, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc.), it will be restricted by communication distance and signal stability. In some large buildings or complex environments, if the signal transmission distance is too far or there is signal occlusion, it may lead to untimely or unstable dimming control, affecting the user experience. For example, in some corners of large shopping malls or office Spaces with many partitions, signal problems may occur.

0-10V dimming

Not suitable for non-professional lighting systems: 0-10V dimming systems are relatively complex, requiring dedicated dimming controllers and wiring, which are costly, and their installation and maintenance are also rather cumbersome. For the simple lighting needs of ordinary families or small commercial places, using this dimming method is overly complex and expensive. Generally, it is more suitable for professional lighting systems in large commercial buildings, hotels, office buildings, etc., which have higher requirements for lighting control.

High wiring requirements: 0-10V dimming requires the separate laying of control signal lines, which may be restricted when renovating some already decorated places. If the wiring construction cannot be carried out conveniently, it is difficult to adopt this dimming method. For instance, in some old buildings or places with special decoration styles where it is not convenient to damage the decoration for wiring, installing a 0-10V dimming system will encounter considerable difficulties.

DALI dimming

The high cost limits the application scenarios: The equipment cost of the DALI dimming system is relatively high, including DALI dimming controllers, DALI interface modules, etc. This makes it less applied in some small-scale projects or ordinary household lighting that are sensitive to costs, and it is more suitable for medium and large commercial projects and high-end residences that have higher requirements for lighting quality and control functions and relatively sufficient budgets.

High professional technical requirements: The setup and programming of the DALI dimming system are relatively complex and require professional technicians for installation and debugging. For some small places lacking professional technical support or ordinary users, it may be difficult to handle this dimming method, which limits its application in some non-professional fields.
